
UNIDO: IZI carried out the final workshop of the fishery assignment in Iran

This study is part of the assignment financed by UNIDO, aiming at enhancing the living conditions of coastal population of Iran, by supporting the fishing sector in the South of the country. The overall objective was to deepen the knowledge about the good practices of fishery associations around the world, to provide local Iranian associations the skills to improve a sustainable fishery industry.
In the first phase of the work the project analyzed relevant literature and collected data from local fishermen, through a closed-ended questionnaire. The scenario has been presented in part one of the workshop, focused on the results of the field survey. At the same time, some international fishing association were identified and screened, to understand good practices and benchmarks. Selected organizations have been contacted and interviewed, gathering useful information to support the growth of the Iranian industry. Good practices and success stories have been shown in part two of the workshop, through direct interventions of representatives and/or previous recorded interviews.
Third part of the workshop presented a comparative analysis between gaps of the Iran fisheries sector and the good practices of the international associations. A road map to implement major changes and improvement has been also discussed.
