IZI carried out the final workshop of the assignment in Iran.<\/p>\n
This study is part of the UNIDO-funded assignment, which aims to improve the living conditions of Iran’s coastal population by supporting the fisheries sector in the south of the country. The overall objective was to learn more about the good practices of fishing associations around the world, in order to provide local Iranian associations with the skills to improve a sustainable fishing industry.<\/p>\n
In the first phase of the work, the project analysed relevant literature and collected data from local fishermen through a closed-ended questionnaire. The scenario was presented in the first part of the workshop, which focused on the results of the field survey. At the same time, a number of international fishing associations were identified and analysed to understand good practices and benchmarks. The selected organisations were contacted and interviewed, gathering useful information to support the growth of the Iranian industry. The good practices and success stories were showcased in the second part of the workshop, through direct speeches by the representatives and\/or previously recorded interviews.<\/p>\n
The third part of the workshop presented a comparative analysis between the shortcomings of the fisheries sector in Iran and the good practices of international associations.
