Unfortunately, however, teleworking is not a possible choice for everyone: one in three Italians, in fact, has problems accessing the internet or does not have access to computers and technological devices. This is what emerges from the survey conducted by IZI in collaboration with Comin & Partners.

There are almost two million Italians who have had to transform their home into an office due to the Covid-19 emergency, 35% of whom would be willing to maintain this new normality even after the health crisis has passed. Furthermore, 57% would be open to a partial agile working formula. There is a significant percentage of Italians (37%) who would also be willing to give up part of their salary in order to continue working from their home.

The advantages of teleworking, according to those interviewed, are numerous. In first place, for over a third of those interviewed, is saving the time it usually takes to go to work. Furthermore, greater flexibility of schedules (30%), economic savings on transport and lunch (15%) and the possibility of spending more time with the family (13%) are indicated. The figure for those who say they prefer smart working due to the possibility of eating healthier is smaller, but still interesting.

Generally speaking, 58% are quite satisfied with the new way of working, compared to 16% who are not very satisfied. While on the one hand it is easier to organize your work at home, on the other hand this can lead to difficulty in finding the time to dedicate to personal activities. This is exactly why 23% said they “never switch off”, while 5% struggle to organize their time and 7% find it complex to manage and plan their work.

But the amount of work is not the only limit that smart working must overcome. In fact, you don’t always have an adequate internet connection, fast enough to not complicate the normal performance of your duties. Furthermore, in this time of lockdown, many workers are not alone at home and therefore many devices connected simultaneously do not have a connection capable of supporting them. Furthermore, there is no shortage of distractions between roommates, family, television and so on: for 13.4%, in fact, these represent a problem.

The survey was carried out on Italian residents of working age (18-65 years) who have had experience of agile working. The sample included 1002 people interviewed in the following way: Cati-Cawi. The interviews were carried out between 7 and 9 April.

IZI is a company specialized in economic and financial evaluation, in feasibility studies of public investment projects, and more generally in methodological and applicative studies in the economic and social sector.
