With the objective of implementing the ‘National Strategy for Ultra Broadband’, IZI is supporting Accenture in the census of Italian towns and villages not yet served by fast connectivity.
As part of the census of the civic centres to be served, we are participating in achieving one of the objectives set out in the National Recovery and Resilience Plan, that is, to bring connectivity to 1 Gbps throughout the country by 2026, ahead of the European objectives set for 2030, and to foster the development of fixed and mobile telecommunications infrastructures. How will we do this? By activating our teams of surveyors who, once trained and educated, will beat small municipalities in central Italy palm by palm in order to classify the connectivity interventions in favour of all the civic centres indicated in the plan.
The project is part of the ‘Italia a 1 Giga’ plan for which EUR 3.8 billion has been earmarked, and is the result of a nationwide mapping exercise to identify the number of householders who would not be covered by 2026 by private investments capable of guaranteeing a connection speed of 300 Mbps download. In 2022, in the first three months, AgCom’s Communications Observatory showed that the number of lines using ultra-wideband increased by 300,000, while the number of copper lines, i.e. the least performing lines, decreased.
