QUIRINAL2022: IZI’s analysis.

With the support of the IZILab technology division, we conducted a quantitative and qualitative analysis on the topic of the moment: the race for the Quirinal. The election of the new President of the Republic is attracting everyone’s attention both on Social and on the Web, and the objective of the analysis is to provide a snapshot of the situation pre, during and post election.

The political topic is always hot, all the more so when the focus is on the Head of State. Government instability, party uncertainty, and the search for a super partes name: the talking points are many and across the board.

Just look at the numbers from October through Jan. 20, the last Friday before voting begins:

255 thousand posts;

57 thousand users who interacted on the topic.

Men posted the most (72%) about the election. In addition, a strongly directed sentiment on this issue emerges: in fact, 82% of the posts are “negative.”

Qualitatively, an attempt was made to find out which names were most discussed before voting began. The history of elections has always shown a twofold phase: the first where names are “burned” and the second where, during the elective rounds, names emerge from agreements between political forces.

In the current specific case, about 35 percent of the interactions have a definite political name as their object: Draghi (13.7 percent), Berlusconi (10.4 percent) and Salvini (4.7 percent) are on the podium of the most discussed politicians during the analyzed period.

The social world had perfectly followed the toto-names made in the first days of voting: in addition to the most famous political leaders, all the candidates brought by the various political forces had alternated in the swing of names. Mattarella’s exploit has, therefore, partly surprised the most attentive social analysts.

The outgoing president’s was a name that was present, albeit without gathering the greatest support. Last Saturday’s election with 759 votes confirmed a trend shown in the hours before the vote.

Of the approximately 45,000 total posts, more than 18,000 were made on Saturday.
