Our latest poll on the Democratic Party primaries, mentioned in today’s La Repubblica article, indicates at least two things: the first is that Elly Schlein, with her 45.8% against Stefano Bonaccini at 54.2%, is attempting a comeback; a ‘comeback’ that we had already given in a previous survey, pointing out that the vote in the big cities could make the difference for Schlein, as the vote of the registered voters in the circles in these hours has sanctioned.
The second is that if you ask – as we did in the last survey – all centre-left voters, not just the Democratic Party, the share of supporters for Elly Schlein grows. Conversely, the share of Stefano Bonaccini’s supporters among the voters of the Democratic Party alone grows.
The numbers, in essence, signal how well a candidate manages to intercept support outside the party and whether the candidate is also attractive to voters of other political forces. We will also see from the turnout in the primaries on 26 February whether these figures will be confirmed.
